Ethiopia
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its affiliated institutions launched the 2018 E.C. Summer Volunteer Service and Green Legacy Initiative in Afar and Gamo, supporting communities through volunteer activities and environmental initiatives. (See article)
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a strategic consultation from August 17 to 18 to support the preparation of its annual trend analysis document for the 2019 Ethiopian fiscal year. Held under the theme “Ethiopia and Interconnected Geopolitical and Geoeconomic Trends,” in the presence of State Minister Ambassador Hadera Abera, the consultation brought together several stakeholders to assess developments shaping Ethiopia’s national, regional, continental, and global environment.
Tana Forum announced on Thursday (August 21) that State Minister Ambassador Hadera Abera and Deputy Director General of African Affairs Fitsum Girma have joined the Tana Technical Committee.
A high-level delegation led by Major General Teshome Gemechu, Director General of Foreign Relations and Military Cooperation at the FDRE Ministry of Defense, visited the United States of America from August 19-20 and held bilateral consultations at the Pentagon with their counterparts and other senior leaders of the US Department of War. The leadership of the defense institutions of both countries reached an agreement to establish comprehensive strategic cooperation between Ethiopia and the United States in the defense and security sectors.
Africa and the African Union
African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf met with President Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of the Congo in Brazzaville to discuss major continental issues, including developments in the Sahel and Great Lakes regions, financing of the African Union, and other global challenges on Sunday (August 16).
