Authentication & Legalization
- Document Authentication (e.g., Certificates of Education, Birth, Marriage, Driving Licenses, Fingerprint Records)
- Documents Originating in Canada: Documents such as trademarks, property rights documents, court decisions, birth certificates,Fingerprint Records and marriage or divorce certificates must be notarized by a Public Notary and authenticated by the Provincial Services Office in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, or Saskatchewan, depending on your province of residence. For residents of Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, or Yukon, document authentication must be handled by Global Affairs Canada
- Documents Originating in Ethiopia: Documents originating in Ethiopia must be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
- Application Submission: All applications must be in person or sent via mail with an envelope containing a tracking number. Applications must also include a self-addressed, prepaid UPS or USPS Express Mail return envelope.
A. For Ethiopians and Holders of Ethiopian Origin ID
- Attach a copy of a valid Ethiopian passport and a copy of the PR card, or attach a copy of your passport or Ethiopian Origin ID card.
- The service fee is $59 (U.S. dollars) per document for each authentication, payable to the “Embassy of Ethiopia” by money order.
- Complete the application form (Click here to download the Application Form).
- Include a self-addressed return envelope with the application.
B. For Other Nationals:
- Attach a copy of a valid passport and ID card.
- The service fee is $90 (U.S. dollars) per document for each authentication, payable to the Embassy of Ethiopia by money order.

C. Authenticating Documents Originating in Ethiopia
- Prior to submitting documents to the Embassy of Ethiopia for authentication, documents originating in Ethiopia must first be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
- The service fee is $59 (U.S. dollars) per document if you include a copy of a valid Ethiopian passport and PR card, or a copy of a valid Ethiopian Origin ID card. Otherwise, the service fee is $90 (U.S. dollars) per document. Payment must be made by money order.

D . Procedure for Obtaining a Police Criminal Record (PCC) from Ethiopia And Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- Application Through a Representative (If you are outside Ethiopia)
Step 1: Get Documents Authenticated- Fingerprints: fingerprints taken by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) or a local police authority using the C216 form.
- Notarization: notarized by a public notary.
- Authentication: authenticated by the relevant provincial authorities.

- Payment: A money order for $59 USD per document for Ethiopian citizens or Ethiopian-origin ID holders, or $90 USD per document for non-citizens.

- Note: The Ethiopian Embassy cannot process the Police Criminal Record (PCC) and Tax Identification Number (TIN) on your behalf
